The Appellant, charged with and convicted of being in unlawful possession of government trophies, was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment. Aggrieved by the sentence the Appellant appealed to the High Court contending that the sentence was excessive and that instead of imprisoning him, the trial court should have ordered him to pay fine only. The counsel for the Respondent submitted that the punishment of fine is an addition to imprisonment according to the provisions of section 70 (2) (b) of the Wildlife Conservation Act [Cap 283 R.E. 2002].
