The Appellant was charged with and convicted of the rape of a three-year old girl. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. He unsuccessfully appealed to the High Court. Aggrieved by the decision of the High Court he further appealed to the Court of Appeal raising four grounds: non-compliance with procedure; failure to consider the defence case, and contradictory evidence of prosecution witnesses, and admission of hearsay evidence. The Appellant also challenged the corporal punishment. The Court addressed each of these grounds and rival submissions.
